Dr. Nicolás Ayub holds a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (2004) and a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry (2009), both from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2009, he joined the Research Career of CONICET at the INTA Institute of Genetics. Since then, he has led a research group focused on microbial genetic improvement, aiming to promote agricultural sustainability in the context of global climate change. As a Principal Investigator at CONICET, he was the first worldwide to develop an efficient base editing system using CRISPR/Cas9 to genetically modify commercial bacterial inoculants — an unprecedented achievement in the field. This technological breakthrough positions Latin America as a global leader in the genetic improvement of inoculants.
